Mixing it up – April’s Monthly Program is Focused on Giving Back!

As HR professionals, we know the importance of continuing education.  It’s one reason we attend the monthly luncheons our WSHRMA chapter puts together.  As HR professionals, we also know the importance of lending our expertise.  And that’s exactly what our April program is focused on!  Check out what we have planned, mark your calendars, sign up and join us!

April is designated as Second Chance Month. We’re taking the theme to heart and have partnered up with Olympic College to provide resume review and mock interviewing for their students with justice involvement in order to prepare them for the College’s large Job Fair held on May 8th.

What does this look like? 

• April 10^th - PART 1: (our regularly scheduled WSHRMA time), between 11:30am – 1:30 pm, we need HR volunteers to come to the college’s Bremerton campus and meet with students to do a review of resumes.  If you’re willing to lend your hand, please register on the WSHRMA website.  We’re looking for 15 volunteers!

• April 24^th  - PART 2: we’ll be hosting mock interviews for the same group.  Again, the timeframe is over lunch, starting at 11:30am and going until 1:30pm.  Here you’ll be asked to help prepare the students for interviewing scenarios, give feedback, and let them ask questions of you as well, so they can gain insight on what might be on their minds.  This will also be held at Olympic College Bremerton. We’re looking for 20 volunteers for this!

The really exciting part is that both of these preparation events lead to these students feeling comfortable and having success when they attend the OC Job Fair held on campus on May 8^th.  Employers from all over the region will be in attendance, and the event is open to not just students, but also the community as a whole.  Being able to prepare for this event through our efforts gives these students a boost of confidence and the knowledge that there is a support group behind them cheering them on!

Your WSHRMA chapter will be submitting these activities to SHRM and HRCI for credit just as we typically do, in the category of “advancing your profession”.
